WhyI stand out as a Graduate Applicant
Analyzing business trends has been my childhood dream, and I laterrealized that I had a passion for numbers after I started working asa staff accountant. My experience while working in the positiontriggered me to consider taking accounting as my primary career and Iam determined to pursue it at a graduate level. I believe that theexperiences I have undergone through position me as an outstandingapplicant.
First, I obtained my Bachelor`s degree in 2012, majoring inInternational Business and I expected to find a meaningful engagementimmediately after school. However, I had to come to terms with theincreasing levels of unemployment especially while trying to fit inan appropriate position that reflects one’s skills. At one time, Ithought that I had chosen the wrong career and I developed a negativeattitude towards life.
However, my honed persistence and aggressiveness became instrumentalwhile moving from one office to another trying to get a productiveengagement regardless of my undergraduate qualification. Later on, Ifound a job as a staff accountant, and I discovered something thathad not crossed my mind before the love for numbers. Through theinvoicing tasks, I have developed self-confidence and which I believewill contribute immensely to the graduate experience.
Although I did not start over as an accountant, I believe that I amamong the exceptional applicants since I have the basic skills fromthe job market. I also concur with Hamilton (2013) that passion fornumbers is invaluable while absorbing the concrete knowledge andskills required for one to become a professional accountant. I alsointend to bring on board my appreciation for teamwork, which Ibelieve will be useful during group activities and discussions.
In conclusion, joining the graduate school as an accounting studentwill fulfill my passion for numbers and give me a more competitiveplatform to work among the professionals in the field. Mypersistence, hard work and ability to work in a team will beinvaluable in class activities and later in my occupation. Therefore,it will be a milestone in my career life to join the program.
