Anidentity crisis can be regarded as a situation where an individualhave a psychosocial conflict and it takes place during theadolescence period. Such conflicts involve interruption related topersonal social roles and it is associated with a sense of loss ofcontinuity to one’s personality. Therefore, identify crisis canresult in suicide by the teenagers when they feel that they do notfit in the society. The paper will focus on strategies that can helpyoung people who experience identity crisis and reasons why theycommit suicide due to bullying.
Strategiesfor Supporting Young Person Experiencing Identity Crisis
Thereare numerous strategies that can be formulated and implemented tohelp young people who are experiencing an identity crisis. First, such students can be provided with safe and secure places that canassist them in growing while having a positive aspect of life (Çelik& Ergün, 2016).Secondly, young people can be given an opportunity to openly expresstheir anxiety, grief, trauma, frustration and fears and that help tocome up with a plan that can solve their problem. As stated byErikson’s psychosocial theory, during the adolescence period (12-18years) most young people struggle to know their identity, and it isimportant to help them understand their capability at this stage toavoid an identity crisis(Çelik & Ergün, 2016).
WhyTeenager Would Commit Suicide Due To a Bullying Incident
Bullyinghas resulted in numerous deaths of young people since it causesemotional distractions and it also results in a feeling of beinghopelessness and helplessness. Such emotional conflicts confine theminds and the thought of young people, and they are convinced thattheir situation has no solution and the only way out is to committedsuicide (Çelik& Ergün, 2016). They commit suicide due to bullying because they feel like theydon’t have the power to change their current situation.Additionally, bullying can be considered as an environmental cause, and they can operate together with other factors to cause suicidalfeelings among the young people (Çelik& Ergün, 2016).
Identitycrises can be evaded by helping the teenagers identify theircapability and bullying cause an emotional distraction, and thatalways result in suicidal feelings among the young people.
