Currently at my practice setting, Epic is the software used for theelectronic medical record documentation. The EpicCare EMR is createdby Epic Systems. The software is designed with the patient being thefocus. Patient engagement is the center of the software, givingpatients their personal and family health information with theMyChart application. Through the patient portal, patients can reviewtheir medical record and update it while enabling the patient to makeinformed choices in regards to the health. The software is used inthe clinical to improve the care and health of the patients. EpicCarecan be tailored to fit the practitioners depending on the specialtyapplication (Tang et el., 2013). The tasks that are streamlined amongthe staffers are done faster. It is useful in aiding the physician indelivering safe and high-quality care. Epic has predictive analyticsand decision support tools that would assist in yielding betteroutcomes.
The Epic system ensures that the patient health records arecomprehensively managed and can be viewed by the patient ensuringthat they are in touch with their care team and can request for helpif need be. The ICD-9 codes are used to report medical diagnoseswhile CPT coding is used about the outpatient procedures andphysician services they are provided for. In the softwareapplications, the medical diagnoses are linked to certainvaccinations or procedures using the ICD-9 codes ensuring that thepatient records will show all the information that the practitionerwill need when checking up on the patients under their treatment. TheICD and CPT codes are crucial in recording the various activitiesthat a patient will undergo in the primary care as well in thespecialized care. The codes have a unique way of detailing theprocedures or services they have utilized in the hospital.
