Three FacedWelders Mask
The RT projects are mainly made to improve creativity amongst people.Originality is essential to mental health, especially to human beings. However, creativity is the utilization ofpersonal originals or imaginations to produce something new. It ismostly used in the production of artwork. It is also known asinnovation. Particularly, it has the quality of originality. It isdone by an individual or a group of people. Focus on thecreative products appears as an attempt to measure people`s capacityfor innovation. The created objects caneither be tangible or intangible. Physical things are createdphysically while a computer creates the intangibleitems. The paper focuses on the welding mask I built, Arabictessellation, history about dada movement, zentangles anddifficultiesI encountered when building the welding mask.
In our case, we will deal with the physical part of creativity. Inthis section, I was involved in creating a real RT project. However, conducting RT projects is valuable in humanbeings. The projects have various benefits. It is important to knowthat the benefits of creativity are drivenby projects such as the RT undertakings. They are paramount becausethey are involved in fulfilling personal life. They make creativityto improve and hence make the life of a person enjoyable. Moreover, creativeness is also vital because it cultivates good mental healthin human beings. From research, it is beingsuggested that among three people, one of them will experiencea poor mental health at a particular time in life. It is whyindividuals will need to create the need for people to get anopportunity and be able to engage in many inspirationactivities as many times as possible. When people do many creativeevents, they bring a meaning and purpose in their lives.
Creating a three Face Welders Mask
My project this semester was an RT project. It isbased on the original design of a welders mask. The equipmentis a unique headgear which is commonly usedfor performing various types joining. However, the purpose of thewelders mask when carrying out welding is primarily protection. Itprotects the face, the eyes, the neck and the entire head fromultraviolet lights, burns, infrared light, heat, and sparks. They aremostly used in the arc welding works such as shielding metal, gas metal and gas tungsten arc fusing. In these types of repairing, the mask help in protecting arc eye and also retina burns whichseverally leads to loss of vision. They are conditions which commonlyoccur due to the unprotected exposure especially to the highconcentrates of ultraviolet emissions which occur at most welding.Fusing can also cause damage to exposed skin hence causing sunburnconditions which take place shortly afteractivity. Wilson products introduced the first welding helmet whichis in use today in the year 1937.
The first welders` mask had a different design when compared to therecent model. The new mask is more improved than the first one inmore than one aspect. When the comparisonis made, the latest welders mask has moreupgraded parts, but the fact is that it is just an improved copycatof the first mask. They don`t have a big difference. The differenceis just using better materials in the make. However, the first designof the welder`s helmet included the following parts a window whichwas covered with a filter. The filter wascalled a lens shade (Becker,Joshua, & Sommers, P. 56). Through the window, thewelder could be able to see the work he was performing while he wasin the process of working. The opening could also be made up of atinted glass or a colored plastic. Moreover, it consisted of variabledensity filter which was manufactured froma pair of polarized lenses.
As a result, the design I made was an imitationof the first welder`s mask. It was a three face design, and I buildit by first making a two-faced model after which I advanced to athree face. I created the mask from a metal sheet. I used a sheetmetal cutter to cut and shape the metal sheet. However, after Ifinished cutting the metal sheet strips, I bend them into a circle. The next step, I hammered the circles intoa standard lock. The next step I took was to add a top to the circlesto ensure that my structure was more stabilized. Moreover, I pokedholes on each end and put screws into each of the circles. Afterthat, I also wrapped three pieces of agalvanized metal wire which were connectedto the other screw which stuck out and after that, I hot glued thethree pieces of fabric to each of the parts of the mask and theskeleton was made.
Including a canvas in the welder`s mask was an idea I borrowed fromthe Dada movement. The Dada movement was art and literaryundertaking Marcel Duchamp created it. Itbegan at Zurich in Switzerland after which it rose as reactions whichcome to be established as a response tothe 1st world war and nationalism. As a result, many people thoughtthat it is due to its existence that led toWorld War. However, the Dada movement was influenced by otheravant-garde crusades. The programincluded futurism, urbanism, expressionism, and constructivism. Note that the output of the avant-garde movementswas adversely diverse. The outputs ranged from the performance of theart to poetry. It also involved photography, painting, sculpture, andcollage. However, the Dada aesthetics were marked by much mockery. The mockery emanated from itself due to its nationalistic and, materialistic attitudes. It proved to be powerful because itinfluenced many artists from various cities of the world includingBerlin, Paris, Cologne, New York, and Hanover. In these towns, Most of the artists who embraced the movement formedtheir groups. Their action dissipated theestablishment of the surrealism.
There are various ideas of the Dada movement. First and foremost itwas the first theory of the art movement where theartists did not only focus on the pleasing crafting objects whichwere aesthetic but also it involved making words which brought muchsense. The idea brought a lot of hard questions about the immediatesociety, the purpose of the art and the role of artists in thecommunity. Another idea of the Dada movement was that it was sointent and its members were opposing all forms of the other bourgeoiscultures from the fact that the culture was favoring itself.
Particularly, artists like the Hans Arp were also very determined inincorporating all the chances they could get into the creation ofart. The idea was against all the norms and the ideas in which artwas founded. By the use of the notion, apiece of art could be well planned and completed. Extra fact is thatthe Dada artists were widely known for using readymade objects. However, it raised many questions among various people because theyaffected artistic creativity and the purpose of the art in thesociety.
Moreover, on one of the canvas paintings, I fixed an Arabictessellation. An Arabic tessellation is a repeated pattern whichfills a space without any overlapping occurring. The pattern was onceused to form mosaics which were used to build floors and tiles mostlyin the Roman homes. Tessellating patterns and more other floraldesigns were developed as bilateralarrangements. However, they are common motifs especially in the artof the Islamic and Arabic art. The historians suggest thattessellations appeared many years ago.
They first appeared in the ancient Sumerian civilization.Particularly, they are a standard feature in temples and homes. Theyare currently found in many culturesincluding the Arab culture. Note that the kinds of shapes and thecolors used in techniques differ in the cultures they are considered. They have been widely adopted by the Islamic communities because theIslamic culture does not agree with the representation of livingthings in their art. Most of their art is made up of geometric formswhich are abstract. An example of the Islamic tessellation isfound in Alhambra which is a huge palace constructedin the 14th century by the Muslims Moors.
Also in the face of the canvas look, I also included a makeup art. Iadded a structured painting as a medium tochange the look of my project. Moreover, the last part of the canvasmask was covered with a zentangle.I got the idea of using a zentangle from myhigh school teacher. He encouraged me, and later I came to realizethat it was a good art which many people adored. Zentangles are smallpieces of unplanned black and white abstracts which are extractsand created in a particular method. Theyare made by assembling simple structures ofpatterns called Tangles. However, they look beautiful, and they arealso relaxing and fun to create. They are createdthrough a form of artistic meditation. Notethat the creative options which are used to combine the variouspatterns of zentangles are boundless. Themethod was designed by Maria Thomas andRick Roberts. The process of making zentanglesis known as tangling.
By utilizing the above artistic methods, I was able to achieve thebest in my RT project. They helped me create an attractive weldersmask. However, when I was carrying out the project, I faced variouschallenges. Some of the problems I faced are for example I tried touse nylon pantyhose as the canvass. Unlucky, the galvanized metal wasnot able enough to hold the canvas and thus maintain its rectangleshape. Additional problem which I faced during the RT project is thatthe nylons I used changed the texture of the metal to a form which Inever desired. However, the worst of all are the problems which mademe fail in building a proper welding mask.
The Importance of the RT projects
However, note that the creative activities especially the RTprojects are helpful to those people experiencing a poor mentalhealth. The group of individuals which benefits mostly from thisparticular idea is peoplesuffering from mental disorders such as depression and anxiety andthe other related mental illness. One of the most important aims ofthe RT projects is to conjure up and improve the spirit of thecognitive and the emotional properties in human beings. It is aneveryday activity and thus it is open to beingdone by any individual.
The projects are developed according to thedifferent feels. However, the feeling follows the identified needs ofa person within a particular area. Asmentioned earlier, good mental health in human beings is essentialespecially in accessing various choices and support which enable manypeople to live happily and thus make their life contented. However, evidence has shown that taking part regularly in the well-designedvarious creative activities at most time contribute towardscontrolling the emotional part of human beings. It makes them have animprovement mentally. We can all say that it leads to a soft mentaltherapy.
Notably, the fact of involving yourself in various creativeactivities makes an individual to learn new skills which may turn outto be helpful in life. Moreover, participating in creative activitiesalso makes people develop new friends. Creating friends is importantbecause it makes somebody learn social skills which are very helpfulin our day to day activities. People also get their own time, and they can focus on their life which to no doubt leads to theimprovement of both social and mental wellbeing. It has happenedespecially to those individuals who participate in the RT activities.
Moreover, there are various experiences which gainedwhen one participates in the RT projects. However, the variousactivities include the improvement of both the social and the mentalwellbeing of an individual. Social welfare is the most importantelement which is achieved byparticipating in the RT projects. Moreover, creative activities makepeople increase their levels of social interaction. Mainly, it alsoincreases the self-esteem of an individual. However, the creativeactivities help to improve the self-esteem of individuals by variousways. For example, when somebody creates a good project, happinessfollows.
The another important thing is that itincreases the emotional resilience of the individual. Notably, italso increases the feeling of independence of the people. Forexample, when you build your item, at the end when it looksbeautiful, you feel that you have done good work. The work isentirely your’s, and you have fullcontrol over it thus the feeling of independence existswithin you. Creative activities also reduce the wired feeling ofisolation. Note that when you involve yourself in the excitingactivities, you mix with various people, and hence there is no senseof loneliness. As a result, it leads to ahappy stay.
By involving yourself in the RT projects, the more you do them, themore you engage yourself in various activities, the more one getskills and thus practically you will be able to create greatitems. The fact that you are involved in productive activities firstof all, you do not have time to indulge inunhealthy activities. Your schedule is tight. Thusyou reduce the chances of indulging in those activities which canruin your life or maybe live an unhealthylifestyle. You minimize the likelihood of going to the hospitalshence do not rely on medicine which much of us use when we get ill.
