TheVarieties of Civic Experience
Thecivic life of the United States has been of a paramount concern amongscholars and activists. I have learned that most scholars haveendeavored to enhance civic participation through increasing voterturnout and also encouraging membership in civic organizations[ CITATION Sch061 l 1033 ].The paper seeks to establish some of the lessons learned in the workof Michael Schudson, the varieties of civic experience.
Lessonslearnt
Ihave managed to embrace the fact that some activities, as mentionedby Robert Putnam and Theda Skocpol, have a significant impact oncivic participation and experience. However, some of these activitiesthat appear to be transitory and individualistic could also have somefar-reaching civic advantages[ CITATION Sch061 l 1033 ].The modern world has gone through drastic transformations in terms ofsocial and technological factors. Civic participation ought to take aturn by utilizing the technological advancements and socialvicissitudes in the family, kinship, and work[ CITATION Sch061 l 1033 ].Moreover, civic participation requires individuals to acknowledge andappreciate various societal transformations in order to establish theappropriate civic engagement. I have learned that it is imperative torecognize the significance of demographic changes such as increasednumber of single households, high cases of divorces, and rapidinvolvement of women in the labor market among others.
Conclusion
Overthe years, researchers and scholars have noted a significant declinein civic participation in the United States. I understand that it isessential for activists and academics to piece together theunderpinnings of civic involvement in order to ensure its efficiencyamong the contemporary population. The ideology of civicparticipation is so broad that people need to embrace the prevailingtransformations in the society in order to embrace long-term civicbenefits.
