HowWorking after High School helped me to Grow Personally andProfessionally
Beforecompleting my high school diploma, I always desired to become anexcellent manager of my time and knowledge. Thus, after completing myhigh school education, I decided to look for work. After scouting forabout two months, I secured a job as a customer servicerepresentative at a local supplies company. The idea of interactingwith clients and meeting the expectations that had been set by thebusiness excited me. However, the thoughts of delivering servicesthat were below the corporation’s standards were inescapable. I wasafraid of letting my parents down since they had high hopes for me.Providing the services that were in tandem with my company`sexpectations was an uphill task, but my dedication to my work helpedme to overcome my challenges and grow both personally andprofessionally.
Myfirst day at work was chaotic. I received many complaints, cancellations, payment information, and inquiries about the productsof the company. Although I had already been oriented on what I wassupposed to do, I found the workload exhausting. Also, my supervisorkept telling me to resolve the issues quickly since more clients werewaiting to be served. I found everything confusing since I had beeninstructed to ensure that each buyer was satisfied before moving tothe next one. I felt like giving up on the job because some customerswere vulgar, my supervisor pressured me to resolve the complaintsquicker, and I had limited information on some of the services andproducts that the company offered.
Atthe end of my first day at work, I went home, lied on my bed, andstarted thing about my priorities in life. The most importantaspiration in my life was to become an excellent planner of my timeand knowledge. This reflection inspired me to do my best, in spite ofthe hardships that I encountered during the day. Therefore, I woke upand reported to work on time on the following day I was moremotivated than ever to gain the requisite experience to execute mytasks flawlessly. I found the workload more manageable since Iresponded to all complaints and inquiries with confidence. Mysupervisor noticed the difference in my attitude and commended me ona job well done. The compliment brought me to the realization thatone`s mindset is critical to whether he succeeds in life or not.
Myunderstanding of the importance of a positive attitude in lifeprompted me to reach out to my brother. For an extended period, mybrother and I had not communicated. He felt that my parents praisedme more than him. I had no idea how I could end the rivalry however, after I had managed to work under pressure, I came to theunderstanding that all problems had a solution. Therefore, I decidedto read a few publications on conflict resolution and discovered thatpersuasion was one of the best ways to resolve the predicamentbetween my brother and me. Thus, I decided to tell my parents toassure him that they were also proud of him. Gandhi`s assertion thatno man is "absolutely right and the other in the wrong"(Waul 108) guided my approach. After my parents had spent aconsiderable period talking to my brother, he developed a friendlierattitude toward me this led to the development of a formidablerelationship between us after some time.
Inthe end, I become conscious of the fact thatrealizing one’s objective is never an easy task. However, throughperseverance and an optimistic mindset, a person can achieve any goalthat he yearns for. Although I found my work hard on my first day ofemployment, my perseverance helped me to gain the relevant workskills and expertise. Eventually, I applied the lessons that I hadlearned at work to my personal life and resolved the disagreementthat existed between my elder brother and me.
