MyInterest in Social Work
Ourlives today are marred with a lot of challenges, some of which wecannot solve on our own. According to Zastrow (2014), it is for thisreason that social work has become an exceedingly important elementin present day fast moving environment. The main objective of socialworkers, from across the world, is to help individuals as well asfamilies get resources and assistance necessary to enhance thequality of their lives.
MyBackground and how it Propelled my Interest in Obtaining Social WorkGraduate Education
Mybackground has played an extremely significant role as far as myinterest in social work is concerned. I was born and raised in a veryhumble setting. My association with my peers taught me a lot aboutsocial work. I vividly remember my desk mate Tom who was very bright.Sadly, he was always in and out of school due to his parents’inability to pay school fees on time or get him the learningmaterials that he required. This was evidently having a negativeeffect on his studies.
Beinga very close friend, I always desired to help thus, I often offered any little assistance I could, like sharing my learning materials.Through the help of friends, Tom managed to finish school which was amajor learning point for us as it demonstrated the power of the smallcontributions people can make towards a given course (Birkenmaier &Curley, 2014). Ever since, I have always believed in social work asthe most ideal tool of bettering the lives of less privileged peoplein the society.
WhatI Hope to Experience or Contribute while at Saint Cloud StateUniversity
Myinterest in social work has always been anchored towards helpingchildren as well as families with children. As such, my number oneexpectation joining Saint Clout State University is to learn how bestto make my contribution towards bettering the lives of young people.I am looking forward to gaining the expertise necessary to thesepeople and their families achieve their full potential. Therefore, mycontribution will be to advocate in my areas of passion as well asbrainstorm with other students and lecturers on the same.
MyPlans and Goals after Graduation and how my Degree will help meAchieve them
Ibelieve Saint Cloud State University is a stage in my developmentthat is aimed at equipping me for the great task ahead. My ultimategoal in life is to work as a medical social worker in a hospital typesetting. I believe this setting will put me in the best position toreach out to this category of people that need help and support.
Accordingto Gene (2015), children crises range from health issues to emotionaland social breakdowns. Most of these issues often end up impactingnegatively on the entire welfare of the family as well as that of thewhole community. Ideally, this warrants any form of help that suchfamilies should be accorded whether formally or informally.
Thedegree program I am doing at the campus is definitely going to comein handy in as far as my service delivery is concerned. Theinformation and experience gained at the institution will be crucialsince it will form the basis on which all my strategies of providingboth direct and indirect services will be founded (Zastrow, 2014)..
Socialwork is without doubt one of the most noble fields. Sadly, it hasbeen largely misunderstood with many people criticizing it for lackof glory. Perhaps this explains why as a profession, it is leastknown for the confidence it inspires in the public. Despite theperspectives I have come to believe that social work is the mostfulfilling career one can take.
