During my tenderage, I was raised in a community the comprised of one ethnic group. Iwas able to meet with other ethnic groups only in specific areas suchas grocery stores or sports events. However, I was scared tointeract with my age mates from other ethnic groups. After completingmy kindergarten education, my father was transferred to work inanother state, which necessitated relocation to an area that haddifferent ethnic groups. At first, life was not easy. It took meseveral months before I could establish another group of friends toplay with. Later, I came to enjoy the cultural diversity that existedin the new community. I was able to play with my friends and sharedvarious ethnic groups’ traditions foods and cultural values. Irecall a case of Patel, one of my childhood friend. Patel was anIndian American, talented in both football and mathematics. Patel wasvery friendly and sharpened my mathematics skills.

Due to the community wellbeing that prevailed, someethnic groups such Asian Americans had businesses that blossomed tooperate under several chains in other states. I was able to buy dairyproducts from a large shop established by Native Americans who werecharming and welcoming to their clients. All ethnic groups were ableto excel in different areas that included sports, healthcareprofessions, and teaching profession among others. I remember onelovely African-American public speaker who was passionate about youngchildren. He could attend church meetings and encourage us to upholdgood morals. My community peaceful coexistence motivated me toadvance my education and advocate for unity among all ethnic groups.During holidays, I could visit my uncles and witness ethnicseparation that has persisted for a long duration.
