HealthcareInformatic – Module 9
Thereis a continued championing for the health sector to fully incorporatethe adoption of healthcare information systems which are utilized innumerous ways, for instance, the processing of data and otherhealthcare related knowledge. The primary objective of this paper isto outline the impact the implementation of CIS would have on thevarious stakeholders in the health sector.
Organizationsthat adopt the CIS are probable to have not only an improved qualityof care but also safety. Additional benefits have seen in theworkflow as a result of cost and time reduction. However, as thesystem grows in magnitude, the possibility of failure is due toincrease (Or etal.,2014). The manifestation of failure occurs when the intended users donot embrace technology hence leading to poor incorporation of thework system. As a result, the workflow is disrupted, and particularlywhen the healthcare is involved in such a scenario, the adoption oftechnology will be bypassed. This would lead to the reliance oninformal practices that ultimately affect the care quality and safety(Or etal.,2014).
Theimplementation of CIS has numerous impacts on the staff. That staffcapacity is freed up thereby resulting in job satisfaction. Theresponsibilities of the staff members are also enhanced as a resultof better communication with patients and among themselves. The lessexperienced staff are in a better position to provide diagnosisinstead of entirely relying on the long serving personnel (Cresswelland Sheikh, 2013). The system will also enhance collaboration amongthe clinical staff, thereby reducing traveling costs and time forpatients and clinicians. However, the CIS may also contribute to theredeployment of some staff members or even risk being declaredredundant. The need for greater technical skills may also alienatesome of the members.
Patientsare also affected by the implementation of CIS. Patients’ outcomesare likely to be improved regarding quality and safety of care. Mostimportantly, it has been easier to provide healthcare services toremote communities given the difficulties that might be encounteredin the transportation of patients. The data on individual patientscan easily be accessed by clinicians, thus improving patient outcomes(Cresswell and Sheikh, 2013).
Inconclusion, it is apparent that CIS has numerous benefits on thestakeholders which outweigh the potential drawbacks. As such, it isvital to embrace their implementation.
