Abortion is the process through which an individual decides toterminate pregnancy deliberately. In most instances,it takes place within the first 28 weeks of the pregnancy. However, abortion has two extreme ends. To some extent, it is allowed andsupported by various people under different circumstances. Forexample, it is authorized to make anabortion to a school girl to enable her to continue and finish hereducation. Particularly, it can also be done to save the life of anindividual if the bearer of the pregnancy has medical complications. This paper is an overview of abortion in the United States ofAmerica.
There are some diseases which may pose a danger to the life of anindividual when delivering. Under this particular case, abortion maybe done deliberately on goodwill terms to save the life of thatparticular person. Another example is, the bearer of the pregnancymay be involved in an accident and hence create the need ofterminating the pregnancy to save a life.Abortion may be done unfairly. Itmay be so if happens when a person decides to end thepregnancy because he became expectant by mistake, or not willing. Inthis case, there is no genuine reason why the person is performing anabortion (Cross and Karen). It is a kind of abortion which mostindividuals and nations are against.
Groups on Abortion in the United States of America
Due to various reasons, there are different groups which have workedto end abortion in the United States of America. The anti-abortiongroups were formed by the various stateswhile others are universal in all countries. It means that in different states you willfind numerous groups which are working veryhard to end abortion amongst citizens. An example of this groupswhich are making efforts to stop abortion includes, the 40 Days forLife which is found in many states and theyemphasize on the peaceful, prayerful vigils. It isworth mentioning that alternative alliance which isbased in North Carolina is the Alabama Citizens for lifeincluding many more others. All of them work towards ending theabortion behavior of the American citizens.
Contrary, there are organizations formed by the Americans in thevarious states which to some extent support abortion because ofdifferent genuine reasons. An example of those groups include theorganizations like the great NARAL which is a prochoice of theAmerican citizens (American and NARAL). The organization has variousnumerous local affiliates. Anotherimportant movement which to some extent hassupported abortion amongst the American citizens is the NationalAbortion Federation (NAF). It is a group which has professionals whoprovide abortion services in Northern America.
However, in the US, the Hyde amendment is the one which at most timeswithholds the Federal Medical funding forthe abortion. The Hyde amendments do more on forming intrusive andunfair restrictions which cover insurance for many millions of thelow-income women together with their families. However, it is anexample of those groups which have political affiliationsthat they interfere with the ladieswelfare by giving them the ability to make their healthcare decisionsand especially abortion.
When the Abortion Law Comeinto Place
On 18th of April 2007, it was when the supreme court of the US upheldthe first-ever law in the burning of procedures of carrying outabortion. However, it also gave the politicians an opportunity todeal with the issues of private health of individuals which includewomen and their families. The federal burn of abortions meant thatthe state criminalized abortions to the second trimester of whichdoctors could deal with termination of pregnancy. However, the doctors later came to acknowledge that it was the safestand the best way in which health of the individuals could bebest protected. Thanks to the law, it has protected manyAmerican lives.
However, the burns of the law came to affect many women who were inneed of the trimester abortions including those doctors who were fromthe trimester abortions. Notably, the US Supreme Court decision hadabandoned the law of abortion for more than 30 years, and thus itaffected the health of women for that extended period. But I thinkthat we should oppose those politicians who are restricting theability of women to make their health decisions by consulting theirdoctors. It is a personal choice, and itshould be respected.
For many years, the Arizona representatives, have been advocating topush a bill which could burn abortion in the District of Columbiaafter 20 weeks of pregnancy. DC wants totake the unconstitutional injury in thewhole country. The reason DC gives is that many women and theirfamilies have been forced to situations ofheartbreaks and much more tragic cases. It suggests that pregnancyneeds only to be terminated only for serious medical reasons. However, it was said that politicians couldnot politicize the issue of preventing doctors and the otherphysicians from informing their patients about all their healthcareissues. It was also argued that doctorswould not be persecuted or considered wrong because of providinghealth care which was regarded right by the constitutions.
It was argued that most of the abortions inthe country usually occurred in the first trimester. It created areason why it was important for women and their doctors to utilizeany medical option which was available and could in one way or theother be helpful to women. However, those various laws governingabortions after the 20 weeks of pregnancy were assumed to take adeeply personal decision out of the handsof the woman or the doctor involved.
Court Cases on Abortion
There were various cases which arose due to abortion. However, notethat the court cases which occurred are one of the most crucialissues which concerned abortion in the US. They are the criticalmatters that gave the direction on how abortion could be weighed andtaken by the citizens. However, they also created a way through whichthe court would come up with the best decisions and ruling which thecourt could make to ensure that abortion was wellcatered. Moreover, the decisions were imperative because theybrought out the significance the decisions which weremade. However, they present the full-text to the decisions.
There were various abortion cases in the US which were notable andrecorded in history. For example, there is the Roe v. Wade, 1972. Itwas the most significant situations in thehistory of the US concerning abortion. The case showed thatabortions were supposed to be legalized ifthe reasons causing the abortion were convincing enough. Later, thedecision of the case was updated in the Doev. Bolton. Another example is the Griswold v. Connecticut, 1965. Itwas a case which was a stepping stone of the Roe v. Wade,1972. The particular instance showed that it was against the law tooutlaw contraceptives these contraceptives could be of any sort.
Also, the other circumstances which were significant in the historyof abortion are the Planned Parenthood v. Casey, 1992. Itis a case which stood out of the other laws of abortion, andthus it required the abortion providers to be inconsistent with theparticular rules which include the parental consent including thenonfiction of the baby`s age (Meens andRob. P. 52). From this case, the court hence provided the rulesthrough which the abortion providers were to work on so that theycould comply with the laws which were set. However, to no doubt, these provisions weresignificant in the shaping of abortion in the United States ofAmerica.
Current Policies on Abortion
However, with the use of the above discussed various cases ofabortions, with the help of the different considerations of thevarious states in the US, the supreme courthas together with the states have come to construct many differentlaws concerning abortion. The Supreme Court has codified, regulatedand limited when and under what different circumstances a womanshould take an option of abortion (Jones,Rachel, Jacqueline, Darroch, & Henshaw, P. 301).The highlights of these laws in actions focus on the physicians andhospital requirements which various states have differingregulations. The other highlights are the gestational limits, the"Partial-Birth" Abortion, the funding by the public, thecoverage by various private insurance, the act of refusing, thelength of the waiting periods, the state-mandated counseling and theparental involvement to the act of abortion to their kids.
Pros and Cons of Abortion
In the United States of America, there are twoparticular types of abortion according to how the act is carried out.The two categories include the in-clinic termination of pregnancy orthe abortion pill. From research, it is a fact to state that the actunder discussion is a common phenomenon which happens in the UnitedStates of America. Research has shown infact from every ten women, 3 of them usually perform an abortionbefore they reach an age of 45 years: the menopause stage. For moreelaborations, and beyond this stage, an individual cannot give birth. It means that if the age of menopause could be elongated, then therecould be the higher percentage of the people performing this vice(Finer &Lawrence, P. 116). However, when somebody is pregnant,he needs to have various options. Trying to decide on abortion is thebest choice which an individual can ever make in his life. The personhas many different options to follow. It means that having the tipsof abortion is the best thing which makes an individual to make theright decisions.
If a person is less than 18 years, the state requires that either oneor both of the parents give permission for the abortion to be carriedout. Also, the law requires that either your parents to be informedbefore the abortion takes place. In most states, one may request ajudge to excuse you from following these requirements. However, it ismore advisable that a person should decide what is best for him (Kostet al.,2014). There are the local Planned Parenthood healthcare centers which help various professionals who addressabortion matters. They offer advice and guidance to citizens. Theyoffer all the services an individual requires concerning terminationof pregnancy.
From the reality gathered from how abortion is carried out, it isimportant to note that this vice is a critical issue. Variouselements should be put into consideration to ensure that it isperfectly done since it is a criticalissue which concerns health and wellbeing of an individual.
