There are two conflicting ideological structures of identity ofclass in the film Moulin Rouge! The film’s characters areall stuck in their fantasies about what they represent. For instance,Toulouse-Lautrec emerges as a romantic and flamboyant character whileChristian is lovelorn. Satine is inherently goodhearted while theDuke is gullible. Essentially, the positive side of the film showsthat one cannot take away another’s love because of belonging to ahigher social class. On the other hand, the negative side of class isthat an individual with money could interfere with a loverelationship between a poor man and a richer girl. The film Moulin Rouge! sends a bettermessage about gender representation than Aladdin does.Essentially, Moulin Rouge! appreciates that women can makechoices about the way they want to party, live, or fall in love. Forexample, Satine is a good-natured woman who decides to fall in lovewith the lovelorn but poor Christian. The arrival of Duke tests herresolve and she stumbles temporarily. However, she eventually regainsher standing, which shows that gender roles are not stereotyped. Onthe other hand, the female characters in Aladdin arediscriminated against as evidenced in the movie’s actions,behavior, and words. Additionally, the clothing is stereotyped infavor of males. It is notable that in the movie Aladdin, allthe female characters are depicted as being dependent on the men. Theimplication is that the make gender is superior to the female genderbut that does not apply in the real world.
