TheLGBTQ community faces a lot of discrimination. One of the primaryunjust practices against the community is the private sector refusalto offer services to them despite the fact that federal law protectsthe LBTQ community against this type of discrimination. Suchprotections are solely based on their sexual orientation. Manyprivate businesses have publicly refused to serve customers becauseof their sexual orientation. This belief is mainly fueled byreligious believes that dictates that the LGBTQ is a sin in the eyesof God and as such most private business believe that it is a sin totolerate and accept the LGBTQ community. In reality, this is wrongand unjust because such practices negatively affects and segregatesLGBTQ community. Although people have the right to exercise theirreligious freedoms, forcing or isolating a particular group of thecommunity based on their religious affiliation or sexual orientationamounts to violation of conventional human rights. The principle ofequality states that human beings are equal and as such should betreated equally with no biasness regardless of one’s sexualorientation. Everyone is entitled to equal and fair treatment. For along time, the LBTQ community has not enjoyed the right to equality, and usually faces massive discrimination. The refusal of service byprivate businesses highly violates the principle of equality by notaccording equal treatment to the LGBTQ just because of their sexualorientation. Violating the principle of equality makes the sexuallyoriented community to feeling left out and believe that they don`thave the right to be who they are simply because society will notaccept them and treat them as human beings.
TheLGBTQ should have a right to socialize freely and go to any placethey want be it a restaurant, school or places of social gatheringwithout the fear of being shunned away or being discriminated. Injust the same way a federal law was created to prohibitdiscrimination of race, religion, color orientation or nationalorigin by private businesses one should also put in place betterpractices meant to protect the LGBTQ from the refusal of service byprivate firms.
Ifthis federal law is to be put in place, there will be nodiscrimination against the group or at least minimize theperpetration. This will bring about a more free LGBTQ community thatdoes not have to be constantly conscious of where they are or wherethey are allowed to be and socialize freely. This type of federal lawwill give them freedom to be who they are, and live according totheir beliefs and sexual preferences. But it will also receiveopposition from religious groups that believe that it is a sin andshould not be tolerated in the community. Most of the religiousgroups believe that putting in place such a law is a violation theirreligious freedom.
Manyprivate businesses and people justify their actions of discriminationthrough strong religious values and believe. As much as one wouldjust discriminate unfairly, just because of their dislike for thiscommunity, most people feel better using religion as justification(Mische& Misztal, 2002). Themain aspect of the issue is that LGBTQ community believes that it’stheir right not to be treated differently because of their beliefsand preferences while the private businesses think it is goingagainst their religious beliefs accepting the LGBTQ community. Bothof the sides are standing on their beliefs to justify their actionsfor and against discrimination.
Thereshould be equal consideration of interests for both sides where anamicable agreement is reached to be able to make people comfortableand respect each other’s beliefs and decisions. There should beestablished minority institutions to be able to minimize bullying inschools and university which in return would reduce the dropout ratedue to discrimination and bullying. There should be alsoneighborhoods that are established for them to be able to have a morerelaxed environment where they have freedom to go where they wantwithout cautions. The LGBTQ community will get less discriminationand have equal treatment to be able to reach their full potentialwhen it comes to becoming the best.
Ibelieve that to be able to stop this unjust discrimination LGBTQshould be introduced to learning institutions to educate people onthis community that desires to have equal rights and be accepted intothe community. There should be more awareness of the dangers ofdiscrimination and bully against this community because of someLGBTQs commit suicide, drop out of school and go into seclusionbecause of these reasons.
Butthe best way to stop this unjust discrimination is for the Congressto pass a federal law that protects the rights of the LGBTQcommunity. They should be able to have the right of expression of whothey are, have the same opportunities available to everyone else andthe right to receive service wherever they are it in a restaurant, lodging, social events and even churches. The law should provide away of having people to accept them into the community and treat themas equals.
