Discussionon Professional Values and Professionalism
Professional values and professionalism is a nursing essential numbereight (VIII). The essential is my favorite as it reflects myprofound desire of choosing the nursing career. During my tender age,I witnessed my best friend succumb to injuries due to poor nursingattention. It was late in the 1990s, where the community hospitalnear our location provided poor services to the minority groups. Myfriend being African American was allowed for treatment afterrigorous verification. Since he had internal bleeding as a result offalling from stairs, he died in the process of treatment. A desireof aiding suffering individuals arose in my heart, and I promised touphold professionalism and nursing values once employed.
Employing professional values and professionalism, I will improve mynursing career by observing human dignity, altruism, social justice, integrity, and patients’ equality. By upholding nursing values, Iwill concentrate my efforts on patient’s health condition anddesist from focusing my attention on personal attributes such as age, social background, race, and color. I will exercise myprofessionalism even when my shift has ended in order to save livesand promote teamwork. By observing professionalism, I will notdisclose patients’ information to the public. Delicate informationwhen exposed to the unintended party affects patients emotionally(Blais, 2015). I will strive to control my moods and temper evenwith disturbing patients. Some patients to lose of their loved one orhigh bills are not able to reason prEoperly. I will treat annoyingpatients with dignity and respect despite the level of provocation. Iwill always uphold positive attitude regarding the condition tomotivate the patients. Some critical conditions such as blood andcolon cancers are irreversible, but I will remain positive (Hood,2014). Moreover, I will maintain my appearance presentable bydressing on clean coats, attending my fingernails and hair to instillconfidence in clients.
