Scholarshave proved education to be the most powerful tool you can use tochange the world. It is the prime reason that I decided to perfect myknowledge in Computer Science and Mathematics. The reasons thatmotivated me to apply to Harvey Mudd College for Computer Science andMathematics are countless. From the research that I did on severalinstitutions, I realized that Harvey Mudd College was way betterplaced to me help nature my skills in the profession. This is becauseof peculiar reasons such as perfectly tailored curriculum that offersjoint major in Computer Science and Mathematics hence suiting myinterest in Computer Science and Mathematics, small sizes of thegraduating classes, collaboration with the Computer Sciencedepartment at Harvey Mudd College with similar departments in otherColleges and a strong foundation provided by the College which fullyequips the students with skills for proper transition between schooland employment.
Sincetender age, I have always had a lot of interest in Computer Scienceand Mathematics, and this can be backed by ability in the mentioneddisciplines. In this regard, the primary task was to find the rightinstitution that would help me build in this field of studies. HarveyMudd College is the one few colleges, if any, that have ComputerScience department which backs a joint major in Computer Science andMathematics. The curriculum, therefore, quite favors my interest inthe fields.
Onthe other hand, because of the technical nature of both ComputerScience and Mathematics, the disciplines require close interactionamongst the students and the lecturer. This can only be possible withmanageable sizes of classes as in the case of the ones found atHarvey Mudd College. The smaller sizes of the classes of the classesalso make me believe that the students are selected on a verycompetitive basis which as a result encourages class discussionwidely considers as a think-tank.
Anotherprime reason that has encouraged me to prefer Harvey Mudd College toother institutions for the course is collaboration with othercolleges which offer a similar course. Since "no man is anisland" I have always embraced teamwork as it provides theopportunity to get other people`s ideas in a given field. Just likeEngineering, Computer Science cannot be domesticated albeit itrequires close relationships between institutions that handle thediscipline. I was therefore much motivated to apply for ComputerScience to the College by the fact that works closely with otherinstitutions with similar departments such as Pomona College andMcKenna College.
Lastly,there is a wide rift between the skills offered by most colleges andthe job requirements. This has made several university and collegegraduates stay jobless as they do not meet industry job requirementor they do not have the proper skills that can enable them to createemployment opportunities for themselves. The training offered at theHarvey Mudd College is entirely different. The curriculum is made insuch manner that it ensures proper transition and induction from thecollege to the industry. I consider this a rare opportunity that isworth pursuing.
Inconclusion, I can say that my decision to apply to Harvey MuddCollege is not by coincidence. It is a well thought and backed bystrong reasons. I, therefore, believe that the opportunity to studyComputer Science at the college would help me build by career andhence worth being appreciated in advance.
