AndyReid the Football Coach
AndrewWalter Reid was born on 19th March in 1958. Currently, he is anAmerican football coach and trains the Kansas City Chiefs a team thattakes part in the National Football League. Andy has served in thesame position in different clubs. For instance, from 1999 to 2012 hewas the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. During the period,particularly from 2001 to 2012, he acted as the executive vicepresident of the club`s operations (Attner, 2013). This position madehim play the role of the team’s manager. During his stay, hesuccessfully led the team to win five championship games in theNational Football Conference. Besides, he also made four consecutiveappearances between 2001 and 2004. He also won the Super Bowl in2004. Unfortunately, due to a bad run of the 2014 season, he wasfired by the owner of the club Jeffrey Lurie. Lucky enough, fiveyears after the dismissal he signed an agreement and became the headcoach of the Chiefs. During his heyday, he played actual football forthe Brigham Young University. After graduation, in 1981, he has spentthe rest of his life in coaching. Based on the above underpinningevidence it is of immense significance to explore Andy’s success,which is attributed to his personal traits, qualities, and skills.
Oneof his great traits is his ability to remain calm and see the largerpicture in a situation. This character came out apparently after theylost to the Minnesota Vikings. The loss was the sixth in that week.The level of doubts outside the stadium, he did not portray any formof panic on the issue of the increased losses in the battles thatthey had taken part in from week to week. He was calm and only paidfocus on the bigger picture. He knew that as per the schedule, hestill had ten more games (Benoit, 2014). As a leader, he firmlybelieved in the ability of his players and the staff. They alsoreciprocated by trusting him.
Reidis a good commanding general. He used this skill to mobilize histroop to rise and face the challenges. Doug Pederson, who was theoffensive coordinator, recalls how Andy Reid stood before the teamand assured that there was a high possibility for them to workthemselves out of the mess since there was still a lot of the seasonleft. He goes on to confirm that these words meant a lot to himdespite the fact that the level of doubts from game one to five wastoo much and widespread. However, he acted at the right time andspoke with a calm demeanor. Theapproach was also acknowledged by the defensive coordinator BobSutton even after the five-game losing line. He could easily identifya good leader since he had vast experience in the coaching field. Hespends over 17 seasons coaching the United States Military Academy aschool that boasts of producing some of the greatest leaders acrossthe nation. According to his sentiments, Andy had one of theessential traits of an effective leader. He points at constantcommunication that is not only visionary but also well presented asone of such characters. Sutton believes that Andy is good incommunication and it is one of the greatest things that Reid has. Heuses this trait to calm everyone (Cullen, 2012).
Hisleadership style is not authoritarian. He does not coordinate theteam members with an iron fist. His leadership style is characterizedby passion and a lot of care. He only becomes firm when necessary,and sets his foot on the ground when he has to do it. Besides, he isprotective and takes care of the needs of every member of the team.
Reiddoes not shift in cases where things seem not to be taking shape. Hetakes up the blame and never runs away from accountability. Thisaspect has been supplemented by his knowledge of the players, whatthey are going through, their needs and how to deal with them.
