AnalyzingNike’s Management Style
Nike’smission statement is to animate and innovate products that match theneeds of every athlete in the world (Nike,2016). The founder of Nike, Bill Bowerman, asserted that anyone thathas a body could become an athlete. Nike`s mission drives thecorporation to seek better ways of encouraging people of all walks oflife to realize their full potential on the track, on the field, athome, and at work. Nike actualizes its objectives by implementing amanagerial style that is customized for both its products and itsclients.
Nike`sorganizational structure has been designed to facilitate theregionalization of business approaches. The structure of Nike isgeographic divisional it is premised on the needs of the corporationin both the global and regional levels (Thompson, 2016). Threeprimary characteristics can be allied with the company`sorganizational configuration: The global corporate leadership, thesemi-autonomous geographic divisions, and the global categories forconverse and brand licensing (Thompson, 2016).
Nike’sorganizational environment is divided into internal and externalenvironments. The company’s internal environment is characterizedby efficiency since the company produces its products in bulk(Leland, 2014). Efficiency is perceivable in the areas of production, logistics, marketing and sales, and support activities. Conversely,Nike`s external environment is typified by a presence, relevance, performance, advantage, and bonding in the market (Nike Inc., 2016).
Inaddition to the above, Nike’s organizational culture has beendesigned to foster diversity and inclusion. The company focuses onmeeting the individual needs of every athlete across the globe. Thus, the company has developed a team that concentrates on understandingthe diversity of its customers (Thompson, 2016). Nike holds thenotion that the best ideas come from the most unlikely places. Therefore, the individual differences of the employees bring newperspectives to bear.
Nike’sinnovation strategy integrates both the development ofground-breaking products and collaboration with other companies. Nikeusually centers its attention on building innovative joint ventures, investing in new enterprises, and spending on emerging technologiesto gain a competitive edge in the market (Nike, 2016). Also, thecorporation impacts industry-wide change by open sourcing, sharing, and creating coalitions with the companies that have mutual interestsin particular sectors of the industry.
Nikehas put measures in place to track and bring down the environmentalimpact of its products. The company has reinvented the role ofrenewable energy and waste, developed a better understanding of itswater footprint, and rethought chemistry (Nike, 2016). In essence, the corporation is seeking ways of producing products that enableathletes to reach their full potential, and, at the same time, minimize carbon emissions.
Nike`s2020 vision, primarily, rests on reducing its environmentalfootprint. The company intends to deliver products that have aminimal impact on the environment, but, at the same time, offermaximum performance to the athlete (Nike, 2016). Also, thecorporation intends to use more sustainable materials in footwear, reach 100% in renewable energy, eliminate footwear manufacturingwaste, and innovate and adapt new approaches to reduce waterconsumption during production.
Ina recap of the above discussion, Nike achieves its goals byimplementing a managerial approach that is tailor-made for both itsmerchandise and customers. Nike’smission statement reflects the company`s resolve to develop productsthat are environmentally friendly but satisfy customer needs. Inspite of its determination to offer eco-friendly items, the companyhas a strategy that positions it ideally in the market, as discussedabove.
