It is crucial to acknowledge the fact thatthere are constant changes in the profession. The knowledge onegained from the nursing school may have changed. It is in line withthe new developments in the field. Because of the same, it would bebeneficial seeking education.
The decision to engage in education enables one to be diverse in themanner in which they execute activities. For example, there are newcourses that are coming up. Notably, there are courses regardingleadership, regulation, occupational health and safety, regulationand legal issues. Numerous issues define the profession. For example,there is the matter of legal aspects that occur in the course ofexecution of their duties. If a nurse faces a legal issue, it isessential that they understand how best to deal with the issue.Particularly, it could be a problem for the given nurse to understandhow to help a patient aggrieved due to issues like medicalnegligence. The ability to provide safe and quality services isdependent on the level of expertise a particular nurse has. Theeducation enables the nurse to understand the new techniques that areapplied in the provision of care. Specifically, there is the aspectof the application of evidence-based care in the execution of nursingservices. Nurses who acquire education will be in a better positionto understand the kind of practice to employ in a particular mode ofservice provision. The benefits of education are many especially whenit comes to the empowerment of nurses to perform their dutiesefficiently. Stakeholders in the healthcare sector must ensure thatnurses get access to the much-needed education to enable them toprovide safe care to the patients (Hawkins, 2012). Evidently, manybenefits can be achieved through education of the nurses.
The Institute of Medicine acknowledges the significant role played bynursing in responding to the complex healthcare system in the UnitedStates. IOM identifies crucial aspects that pertain to nursing andprovide recommendations on how to make the profession better. Thefocus of the report is on ways of removing the barriers to theprovision of quality care services. Notably, aspects such aseducation, collaboration, promotion of diversity and improvement ofdata have been identified as being fundamental in the improvement ofthe future of nursing as a profession (Blais, & Hayes, 2015).According to the findings of the IOM report, nurses need tocontinually develop their skills in various areas as a way ofensuring that they provide the best care to the patients. Emphasis ison the role of leadership, innovation, and collaboration withprofessionals from different disciplines as being crucial in thefuture of nurses. The sentiments presented emanate from the need tohave a profession that is responsive to the ever-evolving healthcaresector and the entire nursing community. It is essential to buildingthe coalitions with other professions as a way of enhancing theprovision of care. The future of nursing significantly depends on thehighlighted factors. Overall, I agree with the sentiments presented regarding theimprovement of the nursing future. For example, leadership has beenidentified as a crucial component in the nursing profession. Advancednurse practitioners have the mandate to ensure that they guide juniornurses on how to effectively execute the mandate assigned to them.Leadership is essential as it provides guidance on how best toprovide care (Elliott et al., 2013). Indeed, the sentimentspresented in the book help in ensuring that the future of nursing isimproved in line with the provision of the best care. Further, thereis the issue of innovation among the nurses. The changing dynamics ofnursing care negate the need for one to come up with innovative waysof addressing such issues. Through innovation, it would be possibleto apply appropriate measures that are aimed at enhancing the careprovided to the patients. Further, it is essential to have nursingwork in collaboration with other disciplines. The continuedcorporation between the different professions would be instrumentalin the achievement of the best patient outcomes. The collaborationserves as a learning opportunity for all healthcare workers with thegoal of getting the best treatment care.
